Oktoberfest in Munich

21 September to 6 October 2024

Take the public transport directly to the 189th Wiesn!

From 21 September to 6 October 2024, it's that time of the year again - the popular Oktoberfest attracts visitors from all over the world to the many beer tents and rides on Munich's Theresienwiese. As always, you can get to your destination safely and in a relaxed manner using Munich's public transport system.

Our recommendation: Avoid the hustle and bustle of the busy Theresienwiese underground station and use one of the many neighbouring alternatives. The stops at Poccistraße and Goetheplatz (U3/U6) are ideal if you are coming from the north or south of the city. The Schwanthalerhöhe stop (U4/U5) is well suited if you are coming from the west of the city. If you are arriving by S-Bahn, long-distance/regional train or long-distance bus, it is best to get off directly at Hackerbrücke or at the main station and take a short walk of about one kilometre.

Here or by clicking on the picture you will find a detailed view of the stops around the Oktoberfest (PDF).

By the way: the MVV journey planner and the MVV app not only know the best connections to the festival grounds, but also the way to one of the 14 large festival tents, to the three tents at the "Oidn Wiesn" or to the famous Ferris wheel. In our interactive map, you can then see in the journey details which routes will take you to your desired destination. Why don't you try it out right now and search for "Riesenrad" in the journey planner.

Increased transport services at night

Most of the beer tents, stalls and rides at the Wiesn close around 11:30 pm. In order to get you home (or to your hotel/hostel/Airbnb/etc.) safely and easily even at this time of night, we will be offering extended transport services at night together with the local transport companies. In particular, the underground and the S-Bahn will run longer than usual.

U-Bahn (Subway)

The underground services run daily every 10 minutes until approx. 01:30 am. On weekends, all subways run at 10-minute intervals from around 07:00 am.

S-Bahn (Suburban Railway)

The S-Bahn runs from Monday to Friday until approx. 01:30 am. On weekends and before public holidays, the last S-Bahn runs till approx. 02:30 am. In general, more suburban trains are used than usual.

RegionalBus and ODS

Several regional bus routes will have extended operating times daily until approx. 01:00 am. The on-demand services (ODS) FLEX and RufTaxi also take you home comfortably at night in many districts.

Additional underground services - also during the day

U4: Increased service between Arabellapark and Westendstraße at 10-minute intervals.

U5: Increased service between Laimer Platz and Neuperlach Süd/Neuperlach Zentrum, partly at 5-minute intervals

U6: Increased service, especially from/to Fröttmaning and Garching
